July 2nd 2011:
Ha, my comment back in December that “there is a fair bit of water to pass under the bridge” turned out to be quite prophetic. It rained and then it rained and then it rained some more. Fortunately, due to quite a low crop load, I was able to get my grapes ripe and picked before the rot set in throughout the district. Mind you, I reckon I only made it with a day or two to spare. The 2011 wines are now looking good.
I have been trial blending the 2010 wines this past week and they are looking very sexy! For the first time I shall be bottling four wines, Simpatico, Symphony and Symposium and a straight Mataro which shall be known as Matarius. I am really looking forward to getting them into bottle, next month, and tasting them after they have got used to their new home.
I am slowly working my way through pruning. It gets done when I don’t have other pressing tasks and the sun is shining. I quite enjoy it and it can be good thinking time.
The vineyard is looking great, the number of earthworm casts just seem to double every year and I have had an amazing number of mushrooms popping up in the vineyard this last month, more than I have ever seen before.
December 10th 2010:
Fingers crossed, there is a fair bit of water to pass under the bridge between now and then but I am already looking forward to the 2011 vintage.
I tasted through a few barrels from 2010 a couple of days ago. Very happy!
Pretty big wines, fresh and vibrant, great structure. The Mourvèdre looks good, may bottle it as a single varietal rather than a blend. We’ll see, nine months before I need to make a decision on that.
G’day Roger,
Just had a quick look through the new website. Looks good! The 2010s sound interesting too! So much good wine to look forward to!
